SMYRNA, Ga., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Three days after police said a 15-year-old Georgia boy was abducted during a carjacking, the teenager drove himself home in the same vehicle, authorities said.
While the family was relieved to have the boy back Monday, Smyrna police said they were still investigating his disappearance and unexpected return, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.
"He's OK," Lt. Robert Harvey said. "After this long a time, this usually doesn't happen."
Police said Marco Antonio Gonzalez was sitting in the family's Mercedes S500 Friday with a cousin as the family attended a neighborhood party when two men approached and entered the car.
The cousin, Yuliana Nicolas, fled the car and ran to a home and alerted family members as the men drove off with Gonzalez in the car, police said.
Shortly after his disappearance, Gonzalez called his family to say he was OK but did not know where his abductors were taking him.
Family members say they received a few phone calls in which the abductors asked for money but did not specify an amount.
After a final phone call from the abductors Monday telling the family the boy was OK, Gonzalez arrived at the family home 20 minutes later driving the Mercedes.
The boy and his family are being questioned about the abduction, police said. No charges have been filed.
