Aretha Franklin's son beaten

DETROIT, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A son of America's Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, was attacked and severely beaten at a Detroit gas station, police said Tuesday.

Police said Eddie Franklin was attacked by three people in Monday's assault on the city's northwest side, the Detroit Free Press reported.

He was scheduled to undergo surgery for injuries that weren't disclosed, Franklin spokeswoman Gwendolyn Quinn said Tuesday.

Details about the attack were unavailable, Quinn said. A witness said two males and one female may have been responsible for the attack, WXYZ-TV, Detroit, said.
