Ex-mother-in-law defends acid victim

VANCOUVER, Wash., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The former mother-in-law of a woman who says she was the victim of an acid attack in Washington state labeled as "insane" allegations the incident was faked.

Pamela Storro told ABC News Tuesday that there is no way her former daughter-in-law Bethany Storro would have thrown acid in her own face.

She said the suggestion that the 28-year-old would do such a thing is "as hideous as the crime itself."

Storro said she was getting something out of her car Aug. 30 when she was approached by a woman who threw acid in her face.

Reports in several news outlets suggested that Bethany Storro may have made up the attack.

Storro's cancellation of a scheduled appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Thursday added to the speculation.

The Vancouver (Wash.) Police Department has been looking into Storro's acid attack for nearly two weeks now but no arrests have been made.
