NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The flight attendant whose meltdown on a JetBlue airliner became an Internet sensation was in court hoping for a deal on charges, his lawyer said.
Steven Slater faces charges of trespassing, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief and could face up to seven years in prison if convicted, the New York Daily News reported.
In a brief court appearance Tuesday, his lawyer did the talking, and Slater did not enter a plea, the newspaper said.
"We're looking for as favorable a disposition for Mr. Slater as we can," defense attorney Daniel Horowitz said.
Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Mantell confirmed there have been plea talks with Slater.
But Mantell also insisted that someone could have been killed or seriously injured when Slater ended his dramatic blowup Aug. 9 by deploying the emergency chute while the plane was on the ground at Kennedy International Airport.
"We continue to focus on the seriousness of the acts of the defendant," Mantell said.
