Mosque would occupy 8 percent of center

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The Ground Zero mosque in New York would occupy 8 percent of the planned Islamic center, which might also include an interfaith prayer space, a source told CNN.

An unnamed source with knowledge of the plans for the project told CNN Tuesday the structure would comprise an 11-story building totaling 120,000 square feet, and that the "designated Muslim prayer space" would take up only 10,000 square feet. The source also said the developer of the project, known as "Park51," "is considering the possibility of an interfaith education/meditation/prayer space as well."

The $100 million facility, opposed by some because of its proximity to the site where Islamic terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001, would include a swimming pool, gym and performing arts center.
