Drew Peterson's son suspended over guns

OAK BROOK, Ill., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Police officer Stephen Peterson was suspended after saying his father, Drew Peterson, stored guns at his Illinois home, a source told the Chicago Tribune.

The newspaper said Sunday that the younger Peterson, an officer with the Oak Brook police force, told department investigators last week that he allowed his dad to keep three guns at his home shortly after Drew Peterson's wife, Stacy, disappeared in 2007.

Drew Peterson is currently charged with murder in the 2004 drowning death of his third wife, Kathleen Salvo. The former Bollingbrook police sergeant is considered a suspect in Stacy Peterson's subsequent disappearance.

Stephen Peterson told investigators his father asked him to hold on to the weapons because did not want anything to happen to them, the Tribune said. He later turned them over to the state police.

Drew Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, told the newspaper the suspension was "baseless" and was aimed at his client.
