Indiana woman delivers quintuplets

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- An Indiana couple's family grew from three to eight children Sunday when the wife gave birth to quintuplets.

Christy Kessinger of Jeffersonville gave birth Sunday morning in Louisville, Ky., the Louisville Courier-Journal reported. She and her husband, Bill Clark, have not been talking to the news media but have provided news of their children on a blog, www.quintsofkentuckiana.wordpress.com.

The babies' names are Maggie Mae, Easton Avery, Hartley Grace, Allie Joy and Ella Lynn.

The couple have reported the quints, born in about the 28th week of pregnancy, are in good health. The smallest baby weighed 2 pounds, 5 ounces, at birth and the largest 2 pounds, 12 ounces.

Multiple births have increased considerably in recent decades because of the use of in vitro fertilization. But Clark and Kessinger say on their blog that their quints were conceived naturally, and they had planned to stop at four.

A Houston woman delivered quintuplets on July 31. The Dionne quintuplets, five identical girls born in their parents' home in Quebec in 1934, became the first known set of five to live through babyhood.
