Minn. Congresswoman Bachmann falls ill

WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., wound up in a hospital for an undisclosed illness, an announcement on her official Web site disclosed.

The brief statement on her House Web site said she was admitted to an undisclosed hospital Friday because of a "sudden illness."

"The congresswoman is currently resting this evening and on her way to a full and quick recovery," the statement said.

Her illness kept her from taking part in several House votes Friday.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported it also forced Bachmann to cancel a campaign appearance in St. Louis Saturday on behalf of U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., who is running for the U.S. Senate. Instead, she addressed the gathering via Skype, the newspaper said.

Bachmann is supporting Blunt in Missouri's GOP primary Tuesday over state Sen. Chuck Pergason, who has Tea Party backing, even though she started up a Tea Party caucus in the House.
