WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- The FBI is investigating whether civilians conspired with a U.S. soldier to give classified information to WikiLeaks, an official at the agency says.
The source, described as a senior official, told CNN on background said that any civilians charged in the case would appear in federal court. Pfc. Bradley Manning, who is now in custody, faces a military court-martial.
Manning is being held at a detention center in Quantico, Va. He has been charged with leaking a video showing an airstrike and other classified information after downloading the data in 2007 and is suspected of passing on field reports from Afghanistan that were published this week on WikiLeaks.
The FBI official would not say if WikiLeaks.org and Julian Assange, who founded the Web site, are targets of the investigation.
Military officials have not said when Manning will appear in court. Lt. Col. Rob Manning, who is not related to the prisoner, told CNN the military justice system is "a very deliberate process."
