SEATTLE, July 28 (UPI) -- An Auburn, Wash., woman accused of causing a fatal car crash while fleeing from police was once convicted of selling her baby, court records show.
Police responding Monday to a report of a reckless driver said when they attempted to stop the car driven by Virginia Christina Ramsey, she took off, The Seattle Times reported Tuesday.
Ramsey's car crashed into a vehicle driven by Douglas Simmons III, 40, of Fife, Wash., killing Simmons and seriously injuring his passenger, Holly Mattson, 42 of Oregon City, Ore., the newspaper said.
Ramsey was transported to St. Joseph Hospital where she was in serious condition.
Ramsey, 36, could face charges of vehicular assault, vehicular homicide, murder and attempted murder, the Times said.
Ramsey pleaded guilty in 2002 to selling her baby, afflicted with fetal-alcohol syndrome, for $2,000. She told a King's County judge she was addressing her drug and alcohol problems, the Times reported.
The judge sentenced her to 15 days in jail, 75 days of electric home monitoring and 240 hours of community service.
