5 hurt in emergency landing in Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., July 26 (UPI) -- A passenger jet made an emergency landing in Flagstaff, Ariz., Sunday because after an indicator light warned of a possible engine fire, officials said.

Five passengers were treated for minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises while using emergency exit slides, the Arizona Daily Sun said initial reports indicated.

The Allegiant Airlines flight was en route from Billings, Mont., to Phoenix when it was diverted to Flagstaff Pulliam Airport at 10:30 a.m.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said it was unclear whether there was a fire in one of the MD-83's engines or if it was a malfunctioning indicator light.

The newspaper said the lack of a proper tow bar meant the aircraft remained on the runway for several hours, preventing other planes from taking off or landing.
