Retired police officer in porn charges

PHILADELPHIA, July 22 (UPI) -- A retired Philadelphia police officer has been arrested on more than 100 counts of possessing child pornography, police records show.

Leo Daniel Haley, 70, who retired in 1996 as one of the highest-ranking members of the city police force, was arrested Tuesday at his home after police found more than 200 child-porn videos on his laptop computer, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Haley admitted downloading child pornography, viewing it and then deleting the files, police reports say.

Released Tuesday night on $100,000 bail, Haley declined comment when contacted by phone, the Inquirer said.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said there was no evidence of any link between Haley's alleged crimes and his time of service on the city police force.

"Certainly, anything that has to do with crimes against children is something you hate to see," Ramsey said. "There's no excuse for it, and I think those who commit these crimes should be punished at the fullest extent of the law, regardless of who they may be."
