Couple sues over falling tree at Yosemite

EUGENE, Ore., July 22 (UPI) -- An Oregon couple is suing over a tree that fell on their car along a road at Yosemite National Park.

Lisa Thorpe and David Stone of Eugene alleged no warning signs were posted by park workers who were felling trees in the park, one of which crashed down on their car as they drove by.

The 2008 incident allegedly left Thorpe with permanent injuries and also required her to have a protective "halo" device implanted in her skull for more than a year.

Thorpe is seeking unspecified damages for her injuries and her inability to work, The (Eugene, Ore.) Register-Guard said Thursday.

Stone, who suffered lesser injures, told the newspaper he was still upset at officials of the National Park Service, whom he said offered little in the way of assistance other than having Thorpe flown to a hospital in Modesto, Calif.

The Park Service had no immediate comment on the lawsuit, The Register-Guard said.
