BUNNELL, Fla., July 21 (UPI) -- Three young Florida boys spent the weekend in a trailer with their father's body, police say.
The oldest boy, 6, told investigators in Flagler County that John Jason Uriarte "never woke up since he went to bed Friday," The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. On Monday, the boy went to a neighbor's house in North Daytona.
When sheriff's deputies arrived, the oldest boy and one of his 3-year-old brothers were with the neighbor, police reports said. The other twin was sleeping next to his father's body.
Lisa Uriarte said her husband had temporary custody of the boys while the two of them tried "to mend their relationship."
She told the newspaper she had been told her husband had foam in his throat, suggesting he died either of a drug overdose or poison. She said she "had never known him to do drugs."
"Everybody likes him and he would do anything for anyone," Lisa Uriarte said. "He's a good guy."
A police spokeswoman said the death was being treated as a "suspicious" one.
The children were placed in the custody of Department of Children and Families, police reports said. Lisa Uriarte said they are living temporarily with their great-grandfather.
