ORLANDO, Fla., July 20 (UPI) -- Lawyers for Florida's Casey Anthony have been investigating her father in connection with the 2008 murder of her daughter Caylee, records indicate.

Documents obtained by a local television station indicate defense attorneys have spent thousands of dollars on a private investigation of George Anthony, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Tuesday.

A legal analyst who viewed the documents said it looks like the defense is trying to discredit George Anthony or possibly blame him for his granddaughter's slaying.

Anthony testified against his daughter in her grand jury hearing.

Records show a private eye hired by her defense team investigated a suicide attempt by George Anthony the month after Caylee's body was found.

Caylee Anthony disappeared two months before her third birthday in June 2008.

Her mother Casey failed to report the toddler missing for more than a month.
