MIAMI, July 8 (UPI) -- Just a week after Hurricane Alex, Tropical Depression 2 headed toward the Texas-Mexico border Thursday, weather forecasters said.
The storm was expected to reach landfall by afternoon, Accuweather.com reported.
The National Hurricane Center said before the depression reaches land it could strengthen into Tropical Storm Bonnie.
The center has issued a tropical storm warning effective from south of Baffin Bay, Texas, to Rio San Fernando, Mexico.
Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski of Accuweather.com said the main impact of Tropical Depression 2 will be flooding.
It may bring as much as 4 inches of rain to South Texas and the central Texas coastline through Friday morning.
