COLUMBIA, S.C., June 18 (UPI) -- The South Carolina Democratic Party won't challenge the controversial primary results in the state's U.S. senate race, party executives said.
The party's executive committee Thursday rejected a request by Vic Rawl to overturn Alvin Greene's win in the June 8 primary, The Hill reported Friday.
Greene, an unemployed Army veteran, did not attend the hearing. He won the primary with 59 percent of the vote, beating Rawl, a Charleston County Council member, by more than 30,000 votes.
Rawl's attorney appealed to the party to overturn the results based on voting irregularities, The Hill said.
After Greene's win, state Democratic Chairwoman Carol Fowler asked him to withdraw after reports surfaced that he was arrested in November and charged with showing pornography to a University of South Carolina student.
