Fugitive porn actor jumps from cliff, dies

LOS ANGELES, June 5 (UPI) -- A porn actor who had been running from a murder charge jumped from a cliff to his death when officers tried to subdue him Saturday, Los Angeles Police said.

Stephen Clancy Hill, 34, of Riverside, Md., who performed under the name Steve Driver, had been sought since Tuesday night in the slaying of a co-worker in an attack that left two others wounded. Police found him early Saturday after receiving information from someone who had spotted his car near a cliff in the Canoga Park area, the Los Angeles Times reported.

A standoff ensued, during which Hill allegedly threatened to kill himself with a samurai sword, the newspaper said. After about eight hours, police used non-lethal ammunition to try subdue Hill but he threw himself off the cliff at about 5:30 p.m. PDT and fell about 50 feet. He died from head injuries, police said.

LAPD Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese told the newspaper Hill "was bent on taking his own life."

Police said it was not known whether the samurai sword Hill was holding Saturday is the one he is alleged to have used Tuesday in the attack on co-workers at Ultima DVD in Van Nuys, Calif. He lived and worked at Ultima, and had allegedly been told he was losing both his job and his living place.

Los Angeles prosecutors Friday charged Hill with one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder, the Times said.
