Obama: News on Sestak offer 'soon'

WASHINGTON, May 27 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama told reporters in Washington Thursday the White House will make public its own take on the Joe Sestak controversy "soon."

The president added that by "soon," he did not mean days or weeks. "I can assure the public that nothing improper took place."

U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa., defeated incumbent U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., earlier this month in the Democratic senatorial primary in Pennsylvania.

Sestak has told reporters that the White House had offered him a job if he would withdraw from the race, but he refused. He also refused to make details public.

Meanwhile, congressional Republicans are calling for a special counsel to investigate the alleged job offer.
