Swedish cartoonist's home damaged

HELSINGBORG, Sweden, May 16 (UPI) -- Police in southern Sweden arrested two men for trying to burn the home of Lars Vilks, the cartoonist targeted by al-Qaida after he drew the Prophet Mohammed.

Vilks was not at his home in Nyhamnslage at the time of the alleged attack early Saturday morning, the Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra reported. Windows of the home were shattered and plastic bottles filled with gasoline were found inside.

A 21-year-old man was arrested in Landskrona Saturday evening and a 19-year-old was arrested in Helsingborg Sunday morning. Both were charged with suspected attempted arson.

In 2007, an al-Qaida-linked group put a $100,000 bounty on Vilks's life because of his cartoon depicting Mohammed as a dog.

In March, U.S. authorities charged an American woman known as "Jihad Jane" with plotting to kill Vilks. Seven co-plotters were arrested in Ireland.
