WASHINGTON, May 12 (UPI) -- Some military veterans are lobbying Congress to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" ban against openly gay and lesbian military service members, organizers say.
More than 100 veterans moved about Capitol Hill Tuesday to argue their position with Sen. Joseph Lieberman, Ind-Vt., chief sponsor of a repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," and others to act on the law without waiting for the completion of a Pentagon study examining how the change would be implemented, CNN reported.
World War II veteran Andre Sauvageot, 77, describing himself as "happily married to a Vietnamese woman for 40 years, said he wanted to demonstrate solidarity with gay and lesbian veterans.
"It's a waste of human resources to discharge skilled military personnel simply because of sexual orientation," Sauvageot said.
