AUSTIN, Texas, May 3 (UPI) -- Thousands of children in Texas and other states were selling lemonade for a day to raise money for charitable projects.
An estimated 13,000 children set up stands Sunday in Austin and San Antonio for Lemonade Day, a national event created by Prepared 4 Life, a children's programming group and sponsored by H-E-B, Imperial Sugar and others.
Children signed up online to receive information on how to operate a small business and then give back to their communities, The Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Monday.
Christopher Binder, age 6, raised $311 from lemonade sales for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds research on Parkinson's disease, The San Antonio Express-News reported.
"He said he wanted to 'help fix mommy's shaking,'" said Christopher's mother, Judy Binder, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2008 at the age of 38.
