WASHINGTON, April 29 (UPI) -- President Obama planned to attend the funeral of civil rights activist Dorothy Height Thursday at the National Cathedral in Washington, the White House said.

The president, accompanied by his wife, Michelle, will speak at the services for the woman known as the godmother of feminists who died last week in Washington at age 98, the schedule of daily activities indicated.

In an afternoon ceremony in the Rose Garden, Obama will honor the 2010 National Teacher of the Year and the state teachers of the year from across the country. Scheduled to join Obama are Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden.

Obama has several closed-door meetings scheduled throughout the day, the itinerary indicated. He also will attend a fundraising dinner for the Democratic National Committee at a private residence in the Washington area.
