ATLANTA, April 7 (UPI) -- The feuding kin of slain U.S. civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. are now working together to enhance the center named for him, a family member says.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday night the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non-violent Social Change will announce a prominent new board member and a sizable donation by the end of the month.
That follows last month's agreement by Bernice King, Dexter King and Martin Luther King III to name Martin the center's president and chief executive officer.
Last year, a judge ordered the family to reshape the Atlanta center's leadership structure.
"Bernice, Martin and I are very excited about our shared vision," Dexter King said in a statement. "It's the right time and Martin is in the right place to take this great organization forward."
Terry Giles, appointed by the court to oversee the reorganization, said the King siblings have come to terms on the restructuring of the center and King Inc., the family entity that controls their father's copyright materials, images and intellectual property.
"It became clear that they need to work together," Giles told the Journal-Constitution Tuesday night.
"I think it was awareness that the fighting has caused harm to their dad's legacy. Once they sat down and began to discuss the issues, they found that they had a lot more in common than they thought."
