WASHINGTON, April 4 (UPI) -- U.S. House and Senate Democratic candidates are leading their Republican counterparts in nearly every fundraising category, finance reports indicate.
The Washington Post said the Republican Party's strategy of solid opposition to the Obama administration's initiatives has proved less successful than some party leaders hoped.
Eight months before congressional elections, House Democrats appear poised to reverse their seven-cycle record of being outspent by their Republican counterparts, the Post report said.
Congressional Democrats are enjoying the traditional advantages of majority-party status, leading in donations from political action committees, national party committees and in individual contributions, the Post said.
Some Republicans say a donation increase may still come, the party just has to remain unified in opposition to Obama.
"If we look like winners, money will follow," Steven H. Gordon, an adviser to Senate Republican leaders who in the past has raised $70 million for GOP congressional candidates, told the Post.
