Alcala could be linked to Seattle slayings

SEATTLE, March 26 (UPI) -- A Seattle detective says he's trying to determine if two unsolved 1970s murders might be connected to a man convicted of five slayings in southern California.

Rodney Alcala, 66, was found guilty earlier this month of killing four women and a 12-year-old girl. After the killings, the bodies were set in awkward poses.

Cold case detective Mike Ciesynski says the timing and circumstances surrounding the 1977 slayings of Antoinette "Tony" Witaker, 13, and Joyce Faunt, 17, give him reason to believe Alcala may be involved, the Seattle Times reported Friday.

The two were killed in a span of a few months and their bodies were found outdoors, posed in a manner similar to the California victims, records indicate.

Ciesynski says he is requesting a DNA comparison to determine if Alcala can be ruled out as their killer.

"When you have somebody posing bodies (like Alcala) and the time frame is the same, you have to look at it," he says.
