Agreement reached over Guantanamo inmates

WASHINGTON, March 19 (UPI) -- Two federal officials say all U.S. intelligence agencies reached an agreement regarding which Guantanamo Bay prisoners will be set free.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Adm. Dennis Blair, U.S. director of National Intelligence, said in a letter to the Senate there is a consensus regarding which terror suspects being held in Cuba will be freed and which will remain in custody, The Miami Herald said Friday.

Thursday's letter from the two federal officials did not offer specifics regarding the future of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

Blair and Holder said after members of the CIA, FBI and the Defense Intelligence Agency analyzed the prisoner situation at Guantanamo Bay, final decisions were made by six "senior-level officials."

The Herald said the possible release of additional Guantanamo Bay detainees is a pressing concern as some released Guantanamo Bay prisoners have since become active members of the Taliban or al-Qaida.
