SPARTANBURG, S.C., March 4 (UPI) -- Denny's says it is sorry if a mention of the Irish Potato Famine in one of the U.S. restaurant chain's advertisements offended anyone.
Management said the restaurant chain based in Spartanburg, S.C., apologizes to anyone who was insulted or offended by the TV advertisement, which promoted an all-you-can-eat deal by tying it to the 150th anniversary of the end of the potato famine, the Chicago Sun-Times said Thursday.
"It is certainly not the intention of the company to offend anyone or any group, and we apologize if this spot has in any way," Denny's management said in a statement.
The advertisement for the french fries and pancakes offer special began airing last week, but was pulled Tuesday amid numerous complaints and protest threats from Irish-Americans.
Critics of the advertisement claimed it made light of the historic event that claimed more than a million lives, the Sun-Times said.
