2 teachers fired for in-school sex

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 3 (UPI) -- Two teachers at a Florida middle school were dismissed Wednesday for having sex on school property with a band teacher now charged with molesting students.

The Palm Beach County School Board voted unanimously to fire the women, the Palm Beach Post reported.

One woman has said she was sexually assaulted by Heath Miller, who was arrested last year on charges of sexual misconduct with students at H.L. Watkins Middle School in Palm Beach Gardens. Officials have questioned her lack of injuries and failure to report the alleged assault.

The other said the sex was consensual but said it did not take place while students were around.

Miller was fired last year and is in jail awaiting trial.

In 2007 students at the school voted Miller the most popular teacher. A few weeks before his arrest, he shot and killed a man he said broke into his home.

The board, without discussion, suspended both teachers without pay for unprofessional conduct. The suspensions are effective immediately and dismissal on March 18.
