DENVER, March 2 (UPI) -- Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter was injured in a Denver bike accident Tuesday and treated for multiple rib fractures at a local hospital, authorities said.

Ritter, an avid cyclist who rides in a group several mornings each week, collided with one of his fellow riders around 6 a.m., The Denver Post reported.

The 53-year-old Ritter was treated at Denver Health Medical Center.

"He is OK and he is in good spirits," spokesman Evan Dreyer said. "He is joking and laughing."

Ritter's wife Jeannie was with the governor at the hospital.

The other cyclist received a minor injury and was not hospitalized, the Post said.
