ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Police in Orlando, Fla., said Wednesday they are investigating a shooting by a police officer that left a man dead outside Universal Studios.

Sgt. Barbara Jones of the Orlando Police Department told the Orlando Sentinel the male victim, who has yet to be identified, apparently threatened a police officer during a traffic stop Wednesday, prompting the fatal shooting.

"It appears the driver of the truck raised his weapon to the officer in some kind of threatening manner," Jones said. "We're trained to take action when it's appropriate. … You have to stop the threat."

Police said a weapon was found inside the victim's vehicle following the shooting.

Jones said the officer involved in the shooting was not injured and has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.

The Sentinel said the investigation is being handled by Florida Department of Law Enforcement detectives.
