Judge nixes estate decision in Novack case

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A judge in Broward County, Fla., said he is overturning his decision to grant the widow of Ben Novack Jr. control of the slain businessman's estate.

Broward County Probate Judge Charles Green said with a federal grand jury investigation looming in New York, he decided to overturn his previous ruling regarding the $10 million estate, The Miami Herald said Friday.

Green said Thursday to be named personal representative of Novack's estate, the businessman's widow, Narcy Novack, must post a $5 million bond.

Narcy Novack is her husband's sole heir and is the beneficiary on his $1 million life insurance policy. She is also a suspect in his 2009 death, the Herald said.

Meanwhile, Novack estate curator Douglas Hoffman will serve as the personal representative.

The judge also ordered the estate's liquid assets to be placed in a court depository so the funds cannot be accessed without permission from the court.

Ben Novack Jr. was found dead in a suburban New York hotel last July and his business operations while alive have become the subject of a federal probe.

The Herald said authorities are attempting to determine whether Novack used his business, Convention Concepts Unlimited, to defraud the government.
