Senior dies after getting lost in Calif.

HAYWARD, Calif., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Authorities said a 76-year-old woman died in an orchard in Yolo County, Calif., after she and her husband got lost en route to a casino.

Police in Hayward, Calif., said Raquel Labbe and her 76-year-old husband, whose identity was not released, began a journey to Cache Creek Casino Jan. 27, only to be reported missing by their son two days later, The Sacramento Bee said Thursday. Staff at the casino said the couple never arrived.

Hayward Police Sgt. Steve Brown said Labbe's husband was found unconscious Monday by a farm worker and authorities soon located Labbe's body near a canal at the edge of an area orchard.

Brown told the Bee it appears Labbe had been attempting to reach the interstate on the other side of the canal, but had succumbed to hypothermia.

Brown said Labbe and her husband, who is recovering from hypothermia, may have gotten lost due a number of factors including bad weather or fatigue.
