Hayward Police Sgt. Steve Brown said Labbe's husband was found unconscious Monday by a farm worker and authorities soon located Labbe's body near a canal at the edge of an area orchard.

Brown told the Bee it appears Labbe had been attempting to reach the interstate on the other side of the canal, but had succumbed to hypothermia.

Brown said Labbe and her husband, who is recovering from hypothermia, may have gotten lost due a number of factors including bad weather or fatigue.
