Teachers orchestrated wrestling match

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A New York teacher and his aide encouraged fourth-graders to wrestle in class until they were bloody to settle a grudge, prosecutors allege.

Teacher Joseph Gullotta, 29, and teacher's aide Abraham Fox, 43, have been charged with child endangerment, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Gullotta and Fox allegedly locked the classroom Thursday at Public School 65 and played referee as Tomas Rivera, 10, and Justin, Stokel, 9, wrestled until Rivera's head was swollen and bruised and Stokel's lip was bleeding, The New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

Gullotta and Fox allegedly waited two hours before allowing the boys to see the school nurse and then told them to lie about how the injuries occurred, the News reported.

Gullotta was sent to a teacher reassignment center and Fox was suspended without pay, Education Department spokeswoman Margie Feinberg said.

Fox and Gullotta declined to comment and the boys involved in the wrestling match could not be reached, the News reported.
