"I'm happy to say that our city will recover all of the costs that came with hosting a safe and successful G20 summit," Ravenstahl said. "I want to thank local, state and federal authorities for working with our officials to make sure that we kept our city safe while protecting our taxpayers."

The newspaper said that among the costs incurred by the city were overtime pay for police, fire and emergency responders as well as costs that came with with hosting nearly 1,000 police officers from other cities and providing them housing, meals and equipment.

Megan Dardanell, a spokeswoman for County Executive Dan Onorato, told the Tribune-Review the $12.2 million does not include expenditures incurred by Allegheny County.
