Bothersome hogs elusive in Texas city

ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- An animal services official in Arlington, Texas, says a group of feral hogs plaguing the area have managed to elude attempts to capture the wild beasts.

Ray Rentschler, Arlington Animal Services community services supervisor, said despite the use of deer corn and molasses as bait, the feral hogs have managed to avoid capture after years of sightings in the area, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said Wednesday.

"They may have moved on," Rentschler suggested. "We really aren't sure."

The wild animals have plagued the city's River Legacy Parks for several years, interfering with reforestation efforts in the park and destroying area vegetation.

In addition, the animals are suspected of damaging gardens and landscapes throughout other parts of Tarrant County.

A public safety official in nearby Southlake, Texas, said all impacted cities need to work together to oppose the feral hogs.

"If you had one city that was extremely aggressive, and the other city next to it was not, then you haven't really dealt with the problem," Sgt. Mike Bedrich of the Southlake Department of Public Safety told the Star-Telegram.
