DENVER, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- A member of the National Socialist Movement Denver Unit said his neo-Nazi group voluntarily helped clean up an area stretch of roadside.
Neal Land, a group leader with the neo-Nazi movement, said his organization took part in the clean up effort last weekend in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Transportation's Adopt-a-Highway program, The Denver Post reported Monday.
Land said the clean up effort near Brighton, Colo., was intended to offer a glimpse into his organization.
"We're not bad people," he told the Post.
Land's group was given volunteer status by state officials after meeting related criteria in their 2009 application for trash-collecting designation.
The civil-rights group, Southern Poverty Law Center, told the Post the National Socialist Movement is focused on denying citizenship to those who aren't "pure-bred whites."
"Only heterosexual 'pure-blood whites' should be allowed citizenship. All others should be stripped of their civil and constitutional rights," the law center offered regarding the movement's main agenda.
