Teacher suspended over stripper photo

UNIONTOWN, Pa., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A high school teacher in Fayette County, Pa., was suspended for 30 days for an online photograph featuring her and a male stripper, school officials say.

Three school directors said the Brownsville Area School District teacher was suspended after the photograph appeared on a social networking Web site late last year, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said Thursday.

The offending photograph, reportedly taken during a bachelorette party, has since been removed.

School director Sandra Chan said the teacher, whose identity was not released, is fully clothed in the photograph, but is posed in a sexually suggestive manner with the stripper.

Chan confirmed the teacher was not the one responsible for posting the photo online, saying another adult allowed the photo to go public.

"She was the victim of a malicious posting that she had no control over," said Chan, who deemed the suspension excessive. "She was acting silly and somebody took a picture. Her reputation is suffering badly."

The Tribune-Review said Chan's fellow school directors, Nena Kaminsky and Stella Broadwater, felt the suspension was appropriate.
