N.C. police officer accused of assaults

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Six women in North Carolina allege a former member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assaulted them while he was on patrol.

The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Wednesday Marcus Jackson was indicted by a grand jury this week on charges he sexually assaulted three women while on duty as a police officer. The panel also said Tuesday Jackson should be investigated on allegations he committed sexual battery on three other women while on patrol.

Authorities allege one incident took place when Jackson responded to a service call, while the remainder occurred during traffic stops. The victims' identities were not released.

Police said in a statement they are investigating incidents that allegedly occurred after Jackson began patrolling the Charlotte area in last May.

"The department continues to investigate all allegations ... . We have systematically contacted persons who had contact with Jackson to determine if any misconduct occurred," police said in a statement. "No new cases have arisen from these contacts."

Police said Jackson, 26, allegedly fondled five of the female victims and attempted to use threats to force the sixth to perform oral sex on him. He remains jailed in lieu of bond.
