JACKSON, Mich., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A Michigan woman's lawyer says intoxication played a major role in a family fight that left his client charged with biting off part of her sister's nose.
Bobbie Smith, 27, Jonesville, was arraigned Tuesday on a number of charges, including mayhem, stemming from the incident that allegedly cost her 28-year-old sister, Sandra, about a third of her nose.
Attorney David Lady said at the hearing both parties were "highly intoxicated" at the time of Sunday's altercation.
The apologetic defendant told the judge: "I love my sister. I was trying to take care of her."
Police told the Jackson Citizen-Patriot Bobbie Smith was combative when they arrived and busted up the interior of a squad car after she was cuffed and lodged in the backseat. Details of what started the fracas remained unclear.
