Consultant charged with felony assault

DETROIT, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A judge ordered a prominent Detroit political consultant to stand trial on charges he threatened his live-in girlfriend with a shotgun.

Sam Riddle, 63, allegedly wielded the weapon last month after Mary Waters came home and found him in a compromising position with another woman.

Riddle was bound over for trial Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court on charges of felonious assault and using a firearm to commit a felony. Waters testified that Riddle produced the shotgun while she was looking for a camera to record the scene, the Detroit News said Wednesday.

Riddle and Waters are co-defendants in a separate federal bribery case, and Riddle is also lead defendant in another major corruption trial that begins next week, the Detroit Free Press said.
