Assault charges filed in box-cutter attack

SEATTLE, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A 35-year-old Seattle woman is facing first-degree assault charges for allegedly cutting another woman's face with a box-cutter, charging documents show.

Court documents filed this week show Tanya L. Lawhorn, already a four-time convicted felon who is still at large, has been formally charged with using the blade on the unnamed female victim during an Aug. 9 fistfight, SeattlePI.com reported Thursday.

Seattle Detective Dana Duffy said witnesses claimed an argument between the two women escalated into a fight that left the victim with multiple cuts 5-7 inches long on her face.

"It appears that Lawhorn had armed herself with a box-cutter and while punching (the victim) in the face was actually slashing her," Duffy alleged in court documents.

Duffy said the victim required numerous sutures to repair her wounds and a breathing tube the night of the incident.

SeattlePI.com said documents show Lawhorn previously pleaded guilty to third-degree assault charges for stabbing her former boyfriend March 9, 2007, because she was jealous of another woman.
