Two men arrested in Zazi terror case

NEW YORK, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Two men in New York were arrested Friday in the case of Najibullah Zazi, accused of plotting to use weapons of mass destruction on U.S. soil, the FBI said.

The FBI identified the men as Adis Medunjanin and Zarein Ahmedzay, both of New York and both of whom had been questioned before in the Zazi investigation, CNN reported.

The two were to be arraigned on Friday in a federal court in New York.

The two men traveled to Pakistan in 2008 with Zazi, the FBI said. They both became known to federal agents during the investigation last fall of Zazi, a Denver airport shuttle bus driver, and remained under investigation since, federal officials said, The New York Times reported.

"Early this morning, Adis Medunjanin and Zarein Ahmedzay were arrested by the FBI-NYPD (New York Police Department) Joint Terrorism Task Force," said James M. Margolin, a spokesman for the FBI's New York office.

A lawyer for Medunjanin, a U.S. citizen originally from Bosnia, has said his client wasn't involved in any terror plot. A member of Ahmedzay's family said he was not involved in any wrongdoing, the Times said.

Court papers filed in his case indicate Zazi told FBI agents during questioning in September he received training in weapons and explosives from al-Qaida militants during his trip to Pakistan, but he denied taking part in a bomb plot. He pleaded not guilty to charges filed against him.

Since September, Medunjanin and Ahmedzay have been under surveillance, officials said.
