INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A 33-year-old man received a 425-year prison sentence for taking part in a 2006 mass killing in Indianapolis that left seven people dead, a judge ruled.
The Indianapolis Star said Marion County Superior Court Judge Robert Altice sentenced James Stewart, 33, for helping Desmond Turner execute seven members of a family on June 1, 2006.
Turner was previously convicted and sentenced to life without parole, plus 88 years.
Killed in the 2006 mass killing were Emma Valdez, 46; her partner, Alberto Covarrubias, 56; their two young children; Valdez's son and daughter, both adults; and her 5-year-old grandson.
Stewart was convicted on Dec. 11 and on Wednesday received 55 years in prison on each of seven counts of felony murder, along with additional sentences for criminal confinement, robbery, burglary and handgun possession.
A 20-year sentencing enhancement was added as well due to Stewart being a habitual felony offender, the Star reported.
