Shroick named Emily's List president

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Emily's List founder Ellen Malcolm is stepping down as president and will be succeeded by Stephanie Schriock, the women's political support group's said.

Malcolm will remain chairwoman of the board of directors after Schriock, who has been chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., assumes the presidency Feb. 1, the organization said on its Web site Wednesday.

"Stephanie Schriock brings not only the experience and dedication we were looking for, but she also comes with a burning passion to help elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates to office," Malcolm said. "We look forward to the energy and new ideas she will bring to Emily's List."

Schriock, who also was campaign manager for U.S. Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., said she was "deeply honored" to be hired by Emily's List.

"The dedicated members of Emily's List, two decades of courageous women candidates and the amazing Ellen Malcolm have fundamentally changed the face of Congress and of leadership in our country," she said. "I look forward to growing the organization and reaching out to the millions of young women who will further change the future of politics and America."

Emily's List was started 25 years ago to push for the election of pro-choice Democratic women candidates.
