Facebook photo may feature dead body

NEW BEDFORD, Mass., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Police in New Bedford, Mass., say a police officer may have posted a photograph featuring a dead body on the social networking Web site, Facebook.

New Bedford police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey P. Silva said while police have not confirmed if the body shown in the photo is a drug overdose victim, the online posting will be investigated, the New Bedford (Mass.) Standard-Times said Wednesday.

"There will be an internal investigation to see if this is true," Silva said. "Right now, this is just an allegation."

The questionable photo features a body facedown on a couch in an apparent crime scene. Authorities are not sure if the featured individual is a man or a woman.

New Bedford police have not revealed the identity of the female police officer accused of posting the Facebook photo.

The Standard-Times said if it is determined the officer violated departmental policy by posting a picture online from a crime scene, she could face a possible suspension or loss of her job.
