Cremated remains found in tow lot car

RENTON, Wash., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- A Washington tow lot employee said he found the cremated remains of two people in an impounded car and located the relatives.

David Shirley said although he and his co-workers at Skyway Towing in Renton, Washington, have discovered many odd items in impounded cars, the human remains they found Tuesday was a first, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported.

"We know what to do with broken-down cars and broken-down trucks, but when it comes to remains of human beings, we're not very well-versed in that," Shirley said, adding that the crew did not want a tow lot to be a person's final resting place.

After a number of phone calls based on the names on the boxes of ashes, the crew located Jan White of Tukwila, the daughter of Vincent Williams and the granddaughter of Ruby Dockery, the two people whose ashes ended up in the lot.

White said she and her brother accidentally left the ashes in the car's trunk while they were moving. They abandoned the vehicle at a repair shop when they were unable to pay the bill, but did not mean to leave the ashes behind.

"I just miss dad so much. And first thing I thought is, 'What does my dad think of me? I lost his ashes.' Makes me feel so much better," White said.

White said the return of the ashes brings closure to her and her brother, as they lost their mother a few months ago.
