BROOKLYN, N.Y., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A 3-year-old Brooklyn, N.Y., girl died after falling from the roof of her apartment building while her mother slept, police say.
Police responding to a 911 call found the child about 1:15 a.m. EST in front of her home in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. Officers said 3-year-old Kyrah Martin's injuries were consistent with those of a fall, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
Paramedics took the child to Kings County Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m.
A video system in the building recorded the child climbing a stairway leading to the roof. An alarm on the roof door activated at about 12: 45 p.m., the New York Daily News reported.
Kyrah's mother Nefertiti Martin, 35, was asleep when the child sneaked out of the apartment and did not hear the alarm, the newspaper said.
