Holder names temp replacement for Ogden

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Gary Grindler will be acting deputy attorney general when David Ogden's resignation goes into effect Feb. 5, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday.

"Gary is a great asset to the department, and I am pleased he has agreed to take on this responsibility," Holder said in a release. "He will be instrumental in our work to keep the American people safe, ensure the fairness and integrity of our financial markets, and restore the traditional missions of the department."

Until Feb. 5 Grindler will be principal associate deputy attorney general, Holder said. He rejoined the Justice Department in March after being a partner at King & Spalding in its Washington office, where he focused on white-collar defense, internal corporate investigations and civil litigation.

During his first stint with the Justice Department, Grindler's roles included counselor to the attorney general, deputy assistant attorney general-Civil Division, and as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York and the Northern District of Georgia.

Ogden announced he was resigning his position as second-in-command at the Justice Department earlier this month to return to private practice.
