McMahon adviser faces Ensign questions

HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- An adviser to Connecticut U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon has been subpoenaed in connection with a probe of Sen. John Ensign, campaign officials say.

McMahon spokesman Ed Patru confirmed Saturday that Mike Slanker, formerly the chief political adviser to Ensign when the Nevada Republican ran the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has been subpoenaed by the Senate Ethics Committee, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported Sunday.

The newspaper said Slanker is currently serving as a general consultant for McMahon, who is seeking the GOP nomination to challenge long-serving incumbent Democrat Christopher Dodd.

The Ethics Committee is probing Ensign after he admitted to an extramarital affair with the wife of one of his former aides, Douglas Hampton.

"Ultimately, this campaign is not about staff or consultants or anybody but Linda and her vision for changing the direction of Washington and putting people back to work in Connecticut," Patru told the Courant.
